...ish

20 Years
Pardon me for being old and irrelevant and kind of a downer.
I spent the spring semester of my junior year in college studying abroad. I went to Beijing University.
The semester got pretty well derailed by democracy protests, and I (along with many of my classmates) ended up working for a news organization to help cover events. I did jobs ranging from the boring (babysitting a hotel room full of on-call taxi drivers) to the ridiculous (delivering a bucket of KFC to a camera crew in Tiananmen Square) to the sublime (spending days and nights in the square during the demonstrations, talking to students).
It lasted about 6 weeks and I will never forget it. I left Beijing on May 23, 1989.
